Small-Sided Games – it’s all about participation, skill development and fun

·          Coaches should encourage players to pass and dribble rather than kick up-field or shoot for goal from anywhere.

·          Coaches must not enter the field of play.

·          Parents should offer the players encouragement but must not coach from the sidelines.

·          Parents must not stand behind the goal line.

·          Referees need to instruct players on how to play the game but must not coach their own team.

·          If an attacker scores from inside the goal area (including foot on the goal area arc) then the goal doesn’t count and the defending team restarts play from the goal line.

·          If a defender prevents a goal by being inside the goal area (including foot on the goal area arc) then the attacking team shall be awarded a free shot from the penalty spot. All players in a team must take a free shot before any player from the same team can take a second free shot.

·          When an individual player has scored three goals and their team is leading by a three-goal margin, he/she must be taken off (even if there are no substitutes) until the other team scores.
